socialdocumentary.net/exhibit/Andrea_Mellen/164 Being the sibling of a special needs child is both challenging and inspiring. Often having to assist in the role of caretaker to a sibling under these conditions create children, and young adults, who see the world so differently, who are so much more sensitive and mature in many ways. It is my hope that this project will facilitate conversations between parents and children about the experience of having a sibling with special needs, and show children who do not have daily contact with a special needs child that they have much in common, and to not be afraid of them, as many children are.
